Mexican

Sopes are a traditional Mexican dish with a rich history dating back to pre-Columbian times. These thick, round corn masa cakes are topped with a variety of ingredients, such as refried beans, meat, cheese, and salsa. The dish originated in central and southern Mexico, where it was a staple food for indigenous communities. Today, sopes are enjoyed throughout Mexico and have gained popularity in the United States and beyond. Some renowned chefs and restaurants have put their own spin on sopes, incorporating unique toppings and flavors. For the best sopes, seek out authentic Mexican eateries or street food vendors known for their traditional preparation. The key to a delicious sope lies in the perfect balance of crispy exterior and soft, pillowy interior, as well as the flavorful toppings that complement the masa base. Whether enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or main course, sopes continue to be a beloved part of Mexican cuisine.
