Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block of extra firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tablespoon grated ginger, 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes.
- Place the tofu cubes in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the top. Gently toss to coat the tofu. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated tofu cubes onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
- Grill the tofu skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
- Serve the sesame ginger tofu skewers hot, garnished with additional sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
Sesame Ginger Tofu Skewers have a rich history rooted in Asian cuisine, particularly in regions like Japan and China. This dish has gained popularity in the West due to its delicious blend of flavors and its appeal to vegetarians and vegans. The dish typically consists of marinated tofu cubes skewered and grilled to perfection, then drizzled with a delectable sesame ginger sauce. Renowned chefs and restaurants have put their own spin on this dish, incorporating local ingredients and innovative cooking techniques. For the best version of this dish, look for a restaurant with a reputation for expertly grilling tofu and creating a flavorful sesame ginger sauce. The key to getting this dish right lies in the marination process, as the tofu needs to absorb the flavors of the sesame and ginger for a truly mouthwatering experience. Alternatively, some chefs also opt for pan-searing or baking the tofu for a different texture and flavor profile. Whether enjoyed as an appetizer or a main course, Sesame Ginger Tofu Skewers are a delightful culinary experience that continues to captivate food enthusiasts worldwide.
