Sesame Crusted Tuna is a popular dish that originated in Asia, where it has been enjoyed for centuries. The dish gained popularity in the United States in the 1980s as part of the fusion cuisine trend. The dish features fresh tuna coated in sesame seeds and seared to perfection, creating a flavorful crust while leaving the center rare. Renowned chefs like Nobu Matsuhisa and Jean-Georges Vongerichten have popularized this dish in their restaurants, adding their own unique twists. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in high-end sushi restaurants and upscale seafood establishments. The key to a perfect Sesame Crusted Tuna lies in using high-quality, fresh tuna and achieving the perfect sear while preserving the rare center.
