Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks (6 ounces each)
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Rinse the brown rice under cold water and drain. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the brown rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, and minced garlic to make the marinade. Place the ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Let them marinate for 10 minutes, turning once.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Remove the ahi tuna steaks from the marinade and season with salt and pepper. Sear the tuna for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if desired. Remove from the skillet and let rest for a few minutes.
  • Fluff the cooked brown rice with a fork and divide it between two plates. Slice the seared ahi tuna and place on top of the rice. Drizzle any remaining marinade over the tuna and rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately.

Seared Ahi Tuna with Brown Rice is a popular dish that originated in Hawaii, where it is known as "Ahi Poke Bowl." This dish has a rich history, with its roots in traditional Hawaiian cuisine. The dish features fresh, high-quality Ahi tuna, which is seared to perfection and served over a bed of nutty brown rice. The tuna is typically marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, and other seasonings, giving it a delicious umami flavor. The dish has gained popularity in recent years and can be found on the menus of many upscale restaurants and sushi bars around the world. For the best version of this dish, look for restaurants that source their Ahi tuna from sustainable fisheries and use high-quality ingredients. The key to making this dish shine is to ensure that the tuna is fresh and of the highest quality, and that it is seared just enough to create a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender, rare center. Whether enjoyed in Hawaii or at a top-notch sushi restaurant, Seared Ahi Tuna with Brown Rice is a dish that never fails to impress with its vibrant flavors and elegant presentation.
