  • 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  • Shape the dough into a 7-inch circle and cut it into 8 wedges.
  • Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

The history of scones dates back to Scotland, where they were originally made with oats and griddle-baked. Over time, the recipe evolved to include flour, sugar, and baking powder, resulting in the classic scone we know today. The addition of chocolate chips brings a delightful twist to this traditional treat, infusing it with a rich, indulgent flavor. In modern times, renowned chefs and bakeries have embraced the chocolate chip scone, incorporating high-quality chocolate and perfecting the balance of sweetness. The best versions of this delectable pastry can be found in artisanal bakeries and cafes, particularly in regions with a strong baking tradition such as Scotland, England, and the United States. To create the perfect chocolate chip scone, it's crucial to use premium chocolate chips that melt into gooey pockets of decadence within the flaky, buttery scone. The key lies in achieving the ideal texture – crisp on the outside, tender on the inside – while ensuring the chocolate chips are evenly distributed for a delightful burst of flavor in every bite. For those seeking a unique twist, some chefs experiment with alternative methods such as drizzling a chocolate glaze over the scones or incorporating chunks of dark chocolate for a more intense cocoa experience. Whether enjoyed with a cup of tea or as a standalone indulgence, the chocolate chip scone continues to captivate palates with its irresistible combination of tradition and innovation.
