Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 12 pretzel rolls
  • 6 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Slice the pretzel rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven for 5 minutes, or until lightly golden. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, cook the bratwurst sausages over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and let them cool slightly before slicing each sausage into 2 pieces.
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Brush the insides of the toasted pretzel rolls with the melted butter.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard and mayonnaise. Spread the mixture on the bottom half of each pretzel roll.
  • Place a slice of bratwurst on top of the mustard-mayo mixture on each roll. Top with a spoonful of caramelized onions and season with salt and pepper.
  • Place the top half of the pretzel roll on each slider and secure with a toothpick.
  • Serve the sliders warm and enjoy!

The history of Pretzel Roll Bratwurst Sliders can be traced back to Germany, where the combination of bratwurst sausages and pretzel rolls has been a beloved culinary tradition for centuries. The dish gained popularity in the United States as German immigrants brought their culinary traditions with them. Today, this dish is a staple at beer gardens, Oktoberfest celebrations, and German-inspired restaurants across the country. The key to a perfect Pretzel Roll Bratwurst Slider lies in the quality of the bratwurst sausage, the soft and slightly chewy pretzel roll, and the addition of tangy mustard and sauerkraut for a burst of flavor. For the best version of this dish, head to authentic German beer gardens or specialty restaurants known for their traditional German fare.
