Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water
- Pretzel salt or coarse sea salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 2 teaspoons salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
- Add the flour and mix until the dough comes together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups warm water and 2 tablespoons baking soda. Set aside.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then wrap it around a hot dog, pinching the ends to seal. Dip each pretzel dog into the baking soda solution, then place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel dog with the egg wash and sprinkle with pretzel salt or coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the pretzels are golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade pretzel dogs!
