Pretzel Calzone
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a 6-inch circle.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
- Top the sauce with 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese, a few pepperoni slices, and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork to create a decorative border.
- In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Carefully add the baking soda to the boiling water (it will bubble up).
- Boil each calzone for 1 minute, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush each calzone with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pretzel crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
