Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup pepperoni slices
- 1/4 cup diced bell peppers
- 1/4 cup diced onions
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Divide the pizza dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a small circle.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce on one half of each dough circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the marinara sauce, then add a few pepperoni slices, diced bell peppers, and diced onions on top.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a secure seal.
- Place the pizza pockets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pizza pockets are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Allow the pizza pockets to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Pizza Pockets, a beloved snack, originated in the 1960s when Chef Paul Merage created the first version in his kitchen. These delectable treats gained popularity in North America, offering a convenient and portable way to enjoy the flavors of pizza on the go. The concept quickly spread, and various restaurants and food companies began producing their own versions. Today, Pizza Pockets are a staple in the frozen food aisle, offering a quick and easy way to satisfy pizza cravings. For the best version, seek out authentic Italian ingredients like quality mozzarella and flavorful tomato sauce, or consider making homemade dough for a truly authentic experience.
