Italian

Pesto pizza originated in Italy, where it was first created by innovative chefs seeking to combine the flavors of traditional pizza with the aromatic essence of pesto sauce. This delectable fusion quickly gained popularity, spreading to pizzerias and restaurants worldwide. The dish features a thin, crispy crust topped with vibrant green pesto, mozzarella cheese, and often adorned with sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, and grilled chicken. Notable variations can be found in the Liguria region, where pesto sauce hails from, and in renowned pizzerias in Naples and New York City. The key to a perfect pesto pizza lies in the balance of fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, and Parmesan in the pesto sauce.
