Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 package of round dumpling wrappers
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together 1 pound of ground beef, 1/2 pound of ground pork, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Place a small amount of the meat mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold the dough over the filling, pressing the edges to seal.
- In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pelmeni for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and become golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the cooked pelmeni to the skillet and toss to coat with the creamy mushroom sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh dill before serving. Enjoy your creamy mushroom pelmeni!
Pelmeni, a traditional Russian dish, has a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Originating from the Ural region, these dumplings were initially created as a convenient and hearty meal for travelers and hunters. Over time, pelmeni gained popularity throughout Russia and beyond, becoming a staple in Eastern European cuisine. The creamy mushroom filling adds a delightful twist to the classic recipe, infusing the dumplings with a luscious and earthy flavor. Chefs in Siberia and the Ural Mountains are renowned for their expertise in crafting pelmeni, often using a blend of wild mushrooms and sour cream to create the perfect creamy filling. Today, the best versions of pelmeni with creamy mushroom filling can be found in authentic Russian restaurants and eateries that stay true to traditional recipes. The key to achieving the ideal flavor lies in using high-quality mushrooms, such as porcini or chanterelles, and incorporating a creamy mixture of sour cream and herbs for the filling.
