Ingredients
- 1 pound of penne pasta
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1 can (14 oz) of crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of red wine
- 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 1/4 cup of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, red wine, dried oregano, ground cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, and cook until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Once cooled, whisk in the beaten eggs.
- Combine the cooked penne pasta with the meat sauce and grated Parmesan cheese. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the bechamel sauce over the pasta and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
