  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Set aside.
  • Season both sides of the salmon fillets with salt and pepper.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully place the salmon fillets in the skillet, skin side down. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the skin is crispy and the salmon easily releases from the pan.
  • Flip the salmon fillets and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
  • Pour the honey glaze over the salmon fillets in the skillet, and allow it to cook for 1-2 minutes, until the glaze thickens and coats the salmon.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the salmon fillets to a serving platter.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot. Enjoy!

The history of pan-seared salmon with a honey glaze can be traced back to the Pacific Northwest, where the abundance of fresh salmon inspired chefs to create innovative dishes. This flavorful combination of sweet and savory flavors has become a staple in many upscale restaurants across the region. Renowned chefs like Tom Douglas in Seattle have popularized this dish, showcasing the region's fresh seafood and local honey. The key to perfecting this dish lies in the quality of the salmon and the balance of the honey glaze, which should caramelize beautifully as the salmon is seared to perfection. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate local herbs and spices to elevate the flavors even further. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in top seafood restaurants in the Pacific Northwest, where chefs continue to showcase the region's culinary excellence.
