Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Caper Sauce
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 halibut fillets (6 ounces each)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons capers, drained
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Season the halibut fillets with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Dredge the fillets in the flour, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the halibut fillets to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Pour in the chicken broth and lemon juice, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly reduced.
- Stir in the capers and chopped parsley. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the halibut fillets to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat the fish through.
- Serve the pan-seared halibut with the lemon caper sauce spooned over the top. Enjoy!
Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Caper Sauce is a classic seafood dish that has been enjoyed for centuries. The dish features a thick, flaky halibut fillet that is expertly seared to perfection, creating a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender, moist interior. The tangy and zesty lemon caper sauce adds a burst of flavor, perfectly complementing the delicate taste of the halibut. This dish has its roots in Mediterranean cuisine, where fresh seafood and citrus flavors are abundant. Renowned chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver have popularized this dish, showcasing their unique twists on the traditional recipe. For the best version of this dish, sourcing high-quality, fresh halibut is crucial. The fish should be seared in a hot pan to achieve a golden crust, while the lemon caper sauce should be balanced with just the right amount of acidity and brininess. In terms of alternative methods, some chefs opt to grill the halibut for a smoky flavor, while others may incorporate additional herbs and spices into the sauce for a more complex taste profile. Today, the best versions of Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Caper Sauce can be found in upscale seafood restaurants along the coast, where the freshest catch meets skilled culinary expertise. Whether it's served with a side of roasted vegetables or a bed of fluffy couscous, this dish continues to be a timeless favorite for seafood enthusiasts.
