French

The history of Palmier, also known as elephant ears, dates back to the 17th century France. This delectable pastry is made from puff pastry that is rolled in cinnamon sugar, creating a sweet and crispy treat. Renowned French chefs, such as Marie-Antoine Carême, popularized the Palmier in their patisseries, making it a staple in French cuisine. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in traditional French bakeries across France, particularly in regions like Paris and Lyon. The key to a perfect Palmier lies in achieving the ideal balance of cinnamon sugar and buttery puff pastry, resulting in a delightful combination of flavors and textures. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate alternative methods such as adding a hint of orange zest or drizzling with caramel for an extra indulgent touch.
