Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of orange liqueur
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 8 ounces of mascarpone cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups of orange juice and 1/2 cup of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup of orange liqueur. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
  • In a mixing bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, whisk together 8 ounces of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
  • Dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cooled orange juice mixture for a few seconds, allowing them to soak up the liquid without becoming soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x9 inch dish.
  • Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Sprinkle half of the orange zest over the mascarpone layer. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers, the remaining mascarpone mixture, and the remaining orange zest.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder. Enjoy this refreshing and citrusy twist on the classic Italian dessert!

Orange tiramisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, featuring layers of ladyfinger biscuits soaked in orange liqueur and fresh orange juice, topped with a creamy mascarpone cheese mixture infused with zesty orange zest. This citrusy variation of tiramisu adds a refreshing and tangy flavor to the traditional coffee and cocoa-based dessert. Renowned chefs in Italy, such as Gennaro Contaldo and Lidia Bastianich, have popularized this delectable treat, infusing it with their own unique flair. For the best orange tiramisu experience, visit authentic Italian restaurants in regions like Sicily or Tuscany, where the freshest oranges are used to create this luscious dessert. For a unique twist, consider using blood oranges for a deeper, more complex flavor profile.
