Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup diced vegetables (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, beat 3 large eggs with 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper until well combined.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until melted and hot.
- Pour the egg mixture into the skillet and let it cook undisturbed for about 1 minute, or until the edges start to set.
- Using a spatula, gently lift the edges of the omelette and tilt the skillet to allow the uncooked eggs to flow to the edges.
- If using, sprinkle 1/4 cup of shredded cheese and 1/4 cup of diced vegetables over one half of the omelette.
- Fold the other half of the omelette over the filling using the spatula, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the omelette is cooked to your desired doneness.
- Slide the omelette onto a plate, and serve hot with toast or a side of fresh fruit. Enjoy!
The omelette has a rich history dating back to ancient times, with variations found in cuisines around the world. This versatile dish is made by whisking eggs and cooking them with various fillings such as cheese, vegetables, and meats. In France, renowned chefs like Julia Child popularized the classic French omelette, known for its delicate texture and simple elegance. In Spain, the Spanish omelette or "tortilla de patatas" is a beloved national dish, featuring layers of eggs, potatoes, and onions. Today, the best omelettes can be found in quaint Parisian cafes or bustling Spanish tapas bars, where skilled chefs masterfully craft these iconic egg dishes. The key to a perfect omelette lies in achieving a fluffy, yet firm texture and incorporating fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether it's a classic French omelette or a hearty Spanish tortilla, the omelette continues to be a beloved staple in global cuisine.
