Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Add 1/2 cup melted butter, warm milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, adding the remaining 1/2 cup of flour as needed, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces, about the size of a walnut. Dip each piece into the 1/2 cup of melted butter, then roll in the brown sugar mixture.
  • Place the coated dough pieces into a greased bundt pan, layering them as you go. Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the monkey bread for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
