Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Warm the milk in a small saucepan until it reaches about 110°F. Pour the warm milk into a large mixing bowl and sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
  • Add the granulated sugar, 3 1/2 cups of flour, salt, eggs, butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to the bowl with the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, adding the remaining 1/2 cup of flour as needed to prevent sticking. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough into rectangles and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 375°F. Carefully add the risen dough rectangles to the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Remove the bars from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain and cool slightly.
  • For the glaze, mix 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of maple syrup in a bowl until smooth. Dip the slightly cooled maple bars into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the glazed bars on a wire rack to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious maple bars!
