Ingredients
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Add the broccoli florets to the boiling water during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens, stirring constantly.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add the cooked macaroni and broccoli to the cheese sauce and stir to combine. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
