Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 3/4 cups of buttermilk.
  • Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead into a round loaf.
  • Place the loaf onto a lightly floured baking sheet and use a sharp knife to score a deep cross on the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for another 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool before slicing and serving.
