Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Place the pork chops in a Dutch oven and brush the honey glaze over the chops, coating both sides.
- Cover the Dutch oven and bake for 30 minutes. Then uncover and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the pork chops are cooked through and the glaze is caramelized.
- While the pork chops are baking, prepare the apple and cinnamon sauce. In a saucepan, combine the sliced apples, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 cup of water, and 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened, about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve the honey glazed pork chops with the apple and cinnamon sauce spooned over the top. Enjoy!
The history of Honey Glazed Dutch Oven Pork Chops served with apple and cinnamon sauce can be traced back to traditional Dutch cooking methods. This dish combines the rich flavors of pork with the sweetness of honey, the tartness of apples, and the warmth of cinnamon. The Dutch oven, a heavy cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid, is essential for achieving tender, juicy pork chops. Chefs in the Netherlands and Dutch-influenced regions, such as parts of the United States, have perfected this recipe over generations. The best version of this dish can be found in cozy, family-owned restaurants in the Dutch countryside or in American diners that celebrate Dutch heritage. The key to getting this dish right lies in the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors, as well as achieving the ideal tenderness in the pork chops. A famous alternative method for making this dish involves grilling the pork chops and then finishing them in the Dutch oven with the honey glaze and apple-cinnamon sauce. This adds a smoky flavor to the dish while still capturing the essence of the traditional recipe.
