Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 oz) of firm tofu, drained and cubed
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 cups of cooked quinoa
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of honey, minced garlic, and rice vinegar. Set aside.
  • In another small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Set aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cubed tofu and cook until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Once the tofu is crispy, pour the honey garlic sauce over the tofu in the skillet. Stir gently to coat the tofu in the sauce.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry to the skillet and stir gently to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and coats the tofu.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle the green onions and sesame seeds over the tofu.
  • To serve, spoon the honey garlic tofu over a bed of cooked quinoa. Enjoy!

Asian

Honey Garlic Tofu served over quinoa is a modern twist on a classic Asian dish. This fusion creation combines the sweet and savory flavors of honey and garlic with the nutty taste and fluffy texture of quinoa. The dish originated in the bustling kitchens of innovative chefs who sought to offer a healthier alternative to the traditional rice accompaniment. This delightful combination has gained popularity in health-conscious restaurants across North America and Europe. The best versions of this dish can be found in trendy urban eateries that prioritize fresh, organic ingredients. The key to perfecting this dish lies in achieving the ideal balance of sweetness and umami in the honey garlic sauce, and ensuring the tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate a variety of vegetables or add a touch of heat with chili peppers.
