- In another bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper to make the dressing for the Greek salad.
- To assemble the gyro plates, place a warmed pita bread on each plate. Top with the grilled meat and a dollop of Greek yogurt. Serve with the Greek salad on the side.
- Toss the mixed salad greens with the prepared dressing just before serving.
- Enjoy the gyro plate with a side of refreshing Greek salad!
The Gyro Plate is a classic Greek dish that has become a staple in Mediterranean cuisine. Originating in Greece, this flavorful dish consists of thinly sliced, seasoned meat, typically lamb or beef, served with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and a side of Greek salad. The history of the Gyro Plate dates back to ancient times, where it was a popular street food in Greece. Today, it can be found in Greek restaurants worldwide, with each chef adding their own unique touch to the dish. The best version of this dish can be found in authentic Greek tavernas, where the meat is traditionally cooked on a vertical rotisserie for that perfect charred flavor. The key to a delicious Gyro Plate lies in the tender, well-seasoned meat and the creamy, tangy tzatziki sauce. As for the Greek salad, it's a refreshing accompaniment, typically made with crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese, and a drizzle of olive oil and oregano. When prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, the Gyro Plate and Greek salad combination is a true taste of Greece.
