Grilled salmon with a zesty lemon dill sauce has a rich history dating back to ancient Mediterranean cultures. The dish gained popularity in the 20th century as chefs in coastal regions began incorporating fresh, local ingredients into their recipes. Renowned chefs like Julia Child and Wolfgang Puck have contributed to the dish's evolution, emphasizing the importance of high-quality salmon and the perfect balance of tangy lemon and aromatic dill in the sauce. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in seafood-centric restaurants along the Pacific Northwest, where the salmon is caught fresh and the sauce is made with locally sourced lemons and dill. For a unique twist, some chefs also infuse the sauce with a hint of garlic or honey for added depth of flavor. Whether grilled over an open flame or on a cedar plank, the key to perfecting this dish lies in achieving a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender, flaky interior.
