Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes.

- Transfer the grilled salmon to a serving platter and sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve the ginger soy salmon hot and enjoy!
Ginger Soy Salmon is a popular dish that originated in Asia, known for its delicate balance of sweet and savory flavors. The dish gained popularity in the United States during the fusion cuisine trend of the 1980s and 1990s. Renowned chefs like Nobu Matsuhisa and Jean-Georges Vongerichten have contributed to its popularity by incorporating it into their menus. The key to this dish is the marinade, which typically includes soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and a touch of sweetness. The salmon is then grilled or baked to perfection, resulting in a tender and flavorful dish. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in upscale Asian fusion restaurants, where chefs pay close attention to the quality of the salmon and the balance of flavors in the marinade. For home cooks, sourcing fresh, high-quality salmon and using the right proportions of ginger and soy sauce are crucial for achieving an authentic and delicious Ginger Soy Salmon.
