Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (blue, purple, pink)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let it cool to lukewarm.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, yeast, and 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Divide the dough into 3 equal parts. Tint each part with a different food coloring (blue, purple, pink) and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Place the colored doughs in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out donut shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes or until they are lightly golden. Let them cool on a wire rack.
