Fried potatoes have a rich history dating back to the 17th century when they were first introduced in Europe. The dish gained popularity in the 19th century, with the emergence of the French fry. Chefs like Auguste Escoffier and George Crum are credited with popularizing the dish in their respective regions. Today, the best version of this dish can be found in Belgium, where they are known for their crispy and golden frites. The key to perfect fried potatoes lies in the choice of potatoes and the double-frying method. For a unique twist, consider making Spanish patatas bravas or German bratkartoffeln.
