Ingredients
- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup of cold butter, cut into small pieces
- Maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and place the cubed French bread in the dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 8 eggs, 2 cups of milk, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread, making sure all the bread is coated. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Cut in 1/2 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the soaked bread in the baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with maple syrup.
