Flatbread has a rich history dating back to ancient civilizations like the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. It's a versatile unleavened bread that can be found in various cultures worldwide, from Indian naan to Middle Eastern pita. Chefs and home cooks have perfected their own versions, using different flours, seasonings, and cooking methods. In modern times, renowned restaurants like Noma in Copenhagen and Tartine Bakery in San Francisco have elevated flatbread with innovative toppings and artisanal techniques. The best versions of this dish can be found in the Mediterranean region, where it's often served with fresh dips, grilled meats, and vibrant salads. The key to a perfect flatbread lies in achieving a thin, crispy crust while maintaining a soft, chewy interior. Whether it's cooked in a wood-fired oven or on a hot griddle, the result should be a delicious canvas for a myriad of flavors.
