Flanken ribs, also known as Korean-style short ribs, have a rich history dating back to traditional Korean cuisine. These succulent, cross-cut beef ribs are a staple in Korean barbecue and have gained popularity worldwide. The dish is believed to have originated in Korea, where it is a beloved part of the country's culinary heritage. In recent years, flanken ribs have become a favorite at many Korean barbecue restaurants in the United States, particularly in cities with vibrant Korean communities such as Los Angeles and New York. Renowned chefs like David Chang have popularized this dish, showcasing its tender, flavorful meat and the unique marinades used in its preparation. For the best flanken ribs, look for well-marbled cuts and pay attention to the marinade, which often includes soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil. Whether grilled to perfection or braised for a melt-in-your-mouth texture, flanken ribs are a must-try for meat lovers and a delicious way to experience the flavors of Korean cuisine.
