Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 12 oz fettuccine pasta
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 12 oz of fettuccine pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Add the cooked fettuccine to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta in the Alfredo sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the pasta evenly.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley over the fettuccine Alfredo. Toss once more to combine.
- Serve the fettuccine Alfredo immediately, garnished with additional grated Parmesan cheese and freshly ground black pepper if desired. Enjoy!
Fettuccine Alfredo is a classic Italian pasta dish consisting of fettuccine noodles tossed in a rich and creamy sauce made with butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. The dish is believed to have been created by Alfredo di Lelio, an Italian chef who owned a restaurant in Rome in the early 20th century. Legend has it that Alfredo created the dish to appeal to his pregnant wife's appetite. The dish gained popularity after American tourists visiting Alfredo's restaurant brought the recipe back to the United States. Today, the best versions of Fettuccine Alfredo can be found in authentic Italian restaurants, where the key is to use high-quality Parmesan cheese and fresh fettuccine noodles. Some chefs also add a touch of nutmeg or black pepper to enhance the flavor of the dish. While the traditional recipe calls for butter, cream, and Parmesan, there are also lighter variations that use ingredients like olive oil, garlic, and even cauliflower to create a healthier version of this indulgent pasta dish. Whether you prefer the classic recipe or a modern twist, Fettuccine Alfredo remains a beloved and comforting dish that continues to delight pasta lovers around the world.
