Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of paprika, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper to create the spicy rub.
- Rub the spicy mixture evenly over both sides of the 4 pork chops, then let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Preheat your Dutch oven over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Once the oil is hot, add the pork chops to the Dutch oven and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the Dutch oven, and let the pork chops cook for an additional 45-50 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- Remove the pork chops from the Dutch oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your spicy Dutch oven pork chops!
The history of Dutch Oven Pork Chops with a spicy rub can be traced back to the American Midwest, where hearty and flavorful dishes are a staple. This dish combines the traditional Dutch oven cooking method with a zesty and aromatic spice rub, creating a mouthwatering fusion of flavors. Renowned chefs in the Midwest, such as those in Kansas City and St. Louis, have perfected this recipe, infusing it with their signature regional spices and techniques. The key to achieving the best version of this dish lies in the quality of the pork chops and the balance of spices in the rub. For a famous alternative method, some chefs recommend searing the pork chops before slow-cooking them in the Dutch oven to lock in the spicy flavors. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Midwestern restaurants that take pride in their heritage and culinary expertise.
