Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually stir in 1 cup of boiling water until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 pound of ground pork, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 2 finely chopped green onions, 1 minced clove of garlic, 1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut the dough into 3-inch squares.
- Place a small spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of each square. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
- In a large pot, bring 2 cups of chicken broth to a boil. Drop the dumplings into the boiling broth and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
- Serve the dumplings hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
Dumplings have a rich history dating back to ancient China, where they were considered a symbol of wealth and prosperity due to their resemblance to ancient Chinese currency. These delectable pockets of dough filled with savory meats, vegetables, or sweets have since spread across the globe, each region adding its own unique twist. From the delicate xiao long bao of Shanghai to the hearty pierogies of Eastern Europe, dumplings have become a beloved comfort food worldwide. Chefs like Din Tai Fung in Taiwan and Momofuku in New York have elevated the art of dumpling-making, while street vendors in Hong Kong and food stalls in Japan continue to serve up mouthwatering variations. Whether steamed, boiled, or fried, the key to a perfect dumpling lies in the balance of the dough and the flavorful filling.
