  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • In a shallow dish, mix together 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder.
  • In another shallow dish, whisk together 2 eggs and 1/4 cup of milk.
  • Dredge each chicken thigh in the seasoned flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and coat again with the seasoned flour. Set aside.
  • Heat 2 cups of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken thighs and fry for 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • In a large pot, cook 2 cups of elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and return to the pot.
  • Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of butter until the cheese is melted and the mixture is creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Preheat the broiler. Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs and 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the macaroni and cheese.
  • Place the baking dish under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden and crispy.
  • Serve the country fried chicken alongside the macaroni and cheese. Enjoy!

Country Fried Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese is a classic Southern dish that has been a staple in American cuisine for decades. The dish originated in the Southern United States, where it was a popular comfort food enjoyed by families and at local diners. The crispy, golden-brown chicken is seasoned with a blend of herbs and spices, then coated in a savory breading before being fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese, with its creamy and cheesy goodness, perfectly complements the crispy chicken. One of the most famous renditions of this dish can be found at the renowned Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room in Savannah, Georgia. This iconic restaurant has been serving up traditional Southern fare, including their famous Country Fried Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese, for over 70 years. The secret to their delicious dish lies in the use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and time-honored cooking techniques passed down through generations. To make the best Country Fried Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese at home, it's essential to pay attention to the details. The chicken should be brined to ensure juiciness and flavor, and the macaroni and cheese should be made with a blend of high-quality cheeses for a rich and creamy texture. Some chefs also add a touch of heat to the macaroni and cheese with a hint of cayenne pepper or paprika for an extra kick. For a unique twist on this classic dish, some chefs incorporate different cheeses into the macaroni and cheese, such as smoked gouda or sharp cheddar, to add depth of flavor. Additionally, using buttermilk in the chicken marinade can impart a tangy richness to the meat, elevating the overall taste of the dish. Whether enjoyed at a beloved Southern restaurant or prepared at home with a personal touch, Country Fried Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese continues to hold a special place in the hearts and stomachs of food lovers everywhere.
