Cinnamon Swirl Classic Scones with Cream Cheese Glaze
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 4 ounces of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons of milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Gently press it into the dough.
- Cut the dough into 8 wedges and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each scone.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the scones are cooling, make the cream cheese glaze. In a medium bowl, beat 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. Add 2-3 tablespoons of milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the glaze reaches your desired consistency.
- Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the cooled scones. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
