Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.
- In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour in one, beat the eggs in another, and mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper in the third.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer the cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the Chicken Milanese hot, garnished with fresh parsley and lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the chicken.
Chicken Milanese is a classic Italian dish that originated in Milan, Italy. It consists of a breaded and fried chicken cutlet, typically served with a fresh arugula salad and a wedge of lemon. The dish is believed to have been inspired by the traditional Austrian dish Wiener Schnitzel, which was brought to Italy by Austrian rulers in the 19th century. The Milanese put their own spin on it by using local ingredients such as breadcrumbs and adding a touch of Italian flair. Today, Chicken Milanese is a popular dish in Italian restaurants worldwide, with renowned chefs like Giada De Laurentiis and Lidia Bastianich putting their own unique twists on the classic recipe. For the best version of this dish, head to Milan, where you can savor the authentic flavors of Chicken Milanese in its city of origin. The key to a perfect Chicken Milanese lies in the quality of the chicken, the crispiness of the breading, and the freshness of the accompanying salad. While the traditional recipe calls for chicken, some variations use veal or pork instead. Additionally, a popular alternative method for making this dish is to bake the breaded chicken cutlets in the oven for a healthier twist on the classic fried version. Whether you're in Milan or your local Italian eatery, Chicken Milanese is a must-try for any food enthusiast looking to indulge in the rich culinary history of Italy.
