Dessert
French

Cherry clafoutis is a classic French dessert originating from the Limousin region. This delectable dish features fresh cherries suspended in a rich, custard-like batter, baked to perfection. Legend has it that the name "clafoutis" comes from the Occitan word "clafir," meaning "to fill," as the cherries fill the batter. Renowned chefs like Julia Child have popularized this rustic dessert, praising its simplicity and delightful flavors. Today, the best cherry clafoutis can be savored in traditional French patisseries and restaurants across France. The key to a perfect clafoutis lies in using ripe, juicy cherries and achieving the ideal balance of creamy texture and fruit sweetness. For a twist, some chefs experiment with alternative fruits like berries or apricots, adding their own unique flair to this timeless treat.
