The history of Cheesy Sausage and Potato Casserole with turkey sausage dates back to the adaptation of the traditional pork sausage version. This hearty casserole has its roots in American comfort food, with a twist to make it a bit healthier by using turkey sausage. The dish gained popularity in the Midwest, particularly in states like Wisconsin and Minnesota, known for their love of hearty, cheesy dishes. Chefs in these regions have put their own spin on the casserole, incorporating local cheeses and spices to create a unique flavor profile. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in family-owned diners and local eateries, where chefs take pride in using high-quality turkey sausage and fresh ingredients. The key to getting this dish right lies in the perfect balance of creamy cheese, savory turkey sausage, and tender potatoes, all baked to golden perfection.
