Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat. Stir in 1/4 cup of flour to make a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk until smooth and thickened.
  • Stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Season the cheese sauce with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Add the cooked and shredded chicken to the cheese sauce, then fold in the cooked macaroni until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  • Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top, then sprinkle 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs on top of the cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
