Italian

The Caprese sandwich originated in the Italian island of Capri, showcasing the flavors of the region. This classic dish features fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, all nestled between slices of crusty Italian bread. Renowned chefs like Giada De Laurentiis and Mario Batali have popularized this simple yet delicious sandwich, making it a staple in Italian cuisine. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Italian delis and cafes, where the quality of the ingredients is paramount. The key to a perfect Caprese sandwich lies in using the freshest, ripest tomatoes and high-quality mozzarella. Alternatively, some variations include adding prosciutto or using pesto instead of fresh basil for a unique twist.
