Italian

Calzone, a traditional Italian dish, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Originating from Naples, this folded pizza-like creation was initially made for laborers as a convenient, portable meal. The word "calzone" translates to "trouser" or "stocking" in Italian, reflecting its folded shape. This savory turnover is typically filled with mozzarella, ricotta, and various meats or vegetables, then baked to golden perfection. Today, renowned chefs and pizzerias in Naples, such as Da Michele and Sorbillo, are celebrated for their authentic calzones. The key to a perfect calzone lies in the quality of the dough and the balance of fillings, ensuring a delightful blend of flavors in every bite.
