  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, onion, cheese, ketchup, mustard

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth.
  • Add the bread crumbs, onion, bell pepper, garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and egg to the bowl with the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray or oil.
  • Cook the black bean patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are heated through and have a crispy exterior.
  • Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet for 1-2 minutes, if desired.
  • Assemble the burgers with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
