Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite jam or preserves

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in 3/4 cup of milk. Stir until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it holds together.
  • Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Using your thumb or the back of a spoon, make an indentation in the center of each biscuit. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of your favorite jam or preserves into each indentation.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the jam is bubbly.
  • Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious biscuit with jam!

Biscuit with jam, a classic Southern treat, has a rich history dating back to early American settlers. The combination of flaky, buttery biscuits and sweet, fruity jam has been a staple in Southern cuisine for generations. Chefs in the Southern United States have perfected the art of making the perfect biscuit, often using family recipes passed down through the years. The best version of this dish can be found in quaint, family-owned diners and bakeries throughout the South, where the biscuits are made from scratch and the jam is often homemade. The key to a delicious biscuit with jam lies in the quality of the ingredients, particularly the butter for the biscuits and the fresh, flavorful jam. While traditional strawberry or blackberry jam is popular, some chefs experiment with unique flavors like peach or fig to add a modern twist to this beloved dish. Whether enjoyed for breakfast or as a sweet treat any time of day, biscuit with jam is a comforting and indulgent delight that continues to hold a special place in Southern culinary tradition.
