Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 1/2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to stir the mixture until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  • Pat the dough into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle and use a floured 2 1/2-inch round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, with the edges touching for soft sides or slightly apart for crisp sides.
  • Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter, if desired.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
