Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and add 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Stir constantly until the mixture forms a ball, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Add 4 eggs, one at a time, stirring well after each addition until smooth.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine 1 cup of fresh raspberries, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the raspberries break down and the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and strain the sauce to remove seeds. Set aside.
  • In a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  • Dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve with the raspberry sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
Dessert
French

Beignets with Raspberry Sauce is a classic New Orleans dessert that has been enjoyed for generations. These fluffy, deep-fried pastries are dusted with powdered sugar and served with a tangy raspberry sauce for dipping. The dish has its roots in French cuisine, reflecting the influence of the French settlers in Louisiana. The beignets are a staple at the famous Café du Monde in New Orleans, where they have been serving up this delectable treat since 1862. The key to a perfect beignet is achieving a light and airy texture, and the raspberry sauce adds a delightful burst of fruity flavor. For a twist, some chefs also incorporate a hint of citrus zest into the beignet batter for added depth of flavor. Whether enjoyed at a bustling café in the French Quarter or made at home, Beignets with Raspberry Sauce are a delightful indulgence that captures the essence of New Orleans' culinary heritage.
