Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef, cut into cubes
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown on all sides, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, until they start to break down.
- In a small bowl, mix together the yogurt, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, paprika, cayenne pepper, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, and ground cloves.
- Pour the yogurt and spice mixture into the pot and stir to coat the beef and onions.
- Pour in the beef broth and season with salt to taste.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan bread.
