The BBQ Pulled Mushroom Sandwich has a rich history rooted in the American South, where barbecue traditions run deep. This vegetarian twist on the classic pulled pork sandwich gained popularity as a plant-based alternative, offering a smoky, savory flavor and hearty texture. Chefs like renowned vegan chef Chloe Coscarelli have elevated the dish, using meaty portobello mushrooms marinated in tangy barbecue sauce. The best versions of this dish can be found in progressive eateries and vegan restaurants across the country, where chefs experiment with different mushroom varieties and house-made BBQ sauces. The key to nailing this dish lies in slow-cooking the mushrooms to tender perfection and pairing them with a soft, toasted bun for the ultimate BBQ experience.
