BBQ Beef Brisket Platter

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 5-6 pounds beef brisket
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons paprika, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon salt to create a dry rub.
  • Rub the dry rub all over the beef brisket, covering it evenly. Let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • In a large Dutch oven or roasting pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove the brisket from the pan and set aside. Add the sliced onion to the pan and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour in 1 cup of beef broth, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and 1 cup of water. Stir to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  • Return the brisket to the pan, cover with a lid or foil, and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for 5-6 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  • Once the brisket is cooked, remove it from the pan and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  • While the brisket is resting, pour the pan juices into a saucepan and add 2 cups of BBQ sauce. Simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  • Slice the brisket and serve on a platter with the BBQ sauce on the side. Enjoy with classic sides like coleslaw, cornbread, and pickles.

The BBQ Beef Brisket Platter has a rich history rooted in the American South, where slow-cooked, smoky meats are a way of life. This iconic dish features tender, juicy beef brisket, slow-smoked to perfection and slathered in a tangy, sweet barbecue sauce. The origins of this dish can be traced back to the traditional pitmasters of Texas, who perfected the art of smoking brisket over hardwood for hours on end. Today, renowned BBQ joints like Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Texas, and Pappy's Smokehouse in St. Louis, Missouri, are celebrated for their mouthwatering brisket platters. The key to a stellar BBQ Beef Brisket Platter lies in the quality of the meat, the perfect blend of spices, and the slow, low-temperature cooking process that infuses the brisket with irresistible flavor. Whether it's served with classic sides like coleslaw and cornbread or as a sandwich piled high with pickles and onions, this dish is a true Southern delicacy that continues to captivate food lovers across the country.
