Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
- 1/4 cup balsamic glaze
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Using a sharp knife, cut a pocket into the side of each chicken breast, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Season the inside of each chicken breast with salt and pepper.
- Stuff each chicken breast with the sliced mozzarella and cherry tomatoes, then secure with toothpicks.
- Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear the stuffed chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the stuffed chicken breasts and return to the oven for an additional 2-3 minutes to warm the glaze.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the chopped fresh basil over the chicken breasts.
- Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
- Serve the balsamic glazed caprese stuffed chicken with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
The Balsamic Glazed Caprese Stuffed Chicken is a mouthwatering dish that combines the flavors of Italy with a modern twist. This dish originated in the Campania region of Italy, where chefs sought to elevate the classic Caprese salad by incorporating it into a succulent chicken breast. The dish gained popularity in the United States as a gourmet option in upscale Italian restaurants. The key to this dish is the perfect balance of flavors - the sweetness of the balsamic glaze, the creaminess of the mozzarella, the juiciness of the tomatoes, and the freshness of the basil. The sprinkle of fresh basil adds a burst of aromatic flavor, enhancing the overall experience. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Italian restaurants that prioritize using high-quality, fresh ingredients. It's important to get the balsamic glaze just right, as it adds a rich and tangy sweetness to the dish. For a twist, some chefs also grill the chicken to add a smoky flavor to the dish. Whether you're in Italy or the United States, this dish is a must-try for anyone who appreciates the vibrant flavors of Italian cuisine.
